A note from the founder
Our Point of View
The thinking behind VCBacked.com, PremiumBrands and building online businesses.
At PremiumBrands.com, I bring selected domain names to buyers who have a practical reason to build on them. I’m its founder, Michael Santiago. VCBacked.com interests me because it points toward a recognizable group of people doing demanding work: founders, investors and the operators who help companies move from an idea to an organization.
A name is part of the work
I acquired i-Newswire.com in 2007 and upgraded the business to Newswire.com in 2015. The shorter, pronounceable exact-match brand gave the business a clearer identity. The business I helped build later sold to Issuer Direct for $44 million in 2022. That figure describes the business acquisition. It is not a valuation of the domain alone, and I do not treat it as a promise about another name.
The experience left me with a practical respect for the address a company chooses. A strong name can make it easier to explain an offer, keep a conversation moving and give customers somewhere clear to return. It still needs a business behind it. The daily work of delivering, listening and making sound decisions cannot be handed over to a domain. I see the name as one useful part of a larger effort.
More people can get something built
AI has changed how quickly a small team can produce an early version of a product. A founder can explore an interface, draft a process or organize a collection of information with tools that reduce some of the initial work. I find that encouraging. It gives more people a chance to test an idea before they have a large organization or a long development budget.
It also makes the questions beyond the first build more interesting. Why should someone try this product? What will bring them back? Whose judgment do they trust? How does a company become the name a customer remembers when a relevant problem appears? Those questions require marketing, relationships, product choices and patient follow-through. The ease of producing an early website does not answer them automatically.
That is why I care about a name that can carry a clear promise. For VCBacked.com, the natural starting point is the venture-backed company ecosystem. The useful question is which part of that ecosystem a buyer understands well enough to serve. I would rather see a narrow offer that helps a defined group than a broad portal that tries to cover everything before it has a reason to exist.
What makes this particular name interesting
A founder community could use the name to make its audience obvious. A specialist publication could organize its reporting around the work of building funded companies. A talent business could use it to describe the employer environment it understands. A portfolio support team could give practical resources a home that company operators recognize. Each direction has different economics, and each deserves its own discovery work.
I do not assume that putting a name online creates demand. The early conversations still matter. A buyer should be able to say which task is frustrating today, how people handle it now and why a new service would earn a place in their week. A name can support the answer and make it easier to share. It cannot substitute for having one.
PremiumBrands and the next step
PremiumBrands.com is where I offer selected domains and begin acquisition conversations. OnlineBusiness.com supports the broader strategy and development work around building online businesses. They serve related roles, but the purpose of this site is straightforward: make VCBacked.com understandable to a prospective buyer and show a few credible directions for it.
The offering here is the domain name. The ideas are illustrative, and a future buyer would bring the company, the team and the operating plan. If the name fits a business you are considering, use Contact Us to explain the connection. A short, specific introduction is enough to begin. I am interested in how the name would be used and what useful job the business behind it would do.
